Jan Mattheus de Grauw

Jan Mattheus de Grauw (1939) is een reislustig beeldend kunstenaar en fotograaf, gespecialiseerd in portret- en modeltekenen, schilderen en fotograferen.
Daarnaast schrijft hij gedichten en verhalen.

Zijn vrije werk is voornamelijk beïnvloed door zijn reizen naar West Afrika. Daarnaast heeft meer dan 40 jaar ervaring in het portretteren van mensen.
Hij geeft les in zijn vakgebieden aan zowel professionals als amateurs in vele landen en publiceert over zijn werk.

Hij woont en werkt in zijn geboortestad Rotterdam, in de wijk Kralingen.

Painter, Photographer and Writer
Jan Mattheus de Grauw is a noteworthy artist in The Netherlands and further afield. He specialises in portrait & model drawing, painting & photography and also writing.
His works reflect his passion for people, life, love and art.

Jan: "I don't try to reconstruct what I've seen, but instead I attempt to unravel an experience and evoke the feeling I experienced at the time. I give my fantasy free reign while I search for the unity between man and his environment..."

During the last fifteen years he has travelled to Senegal and The Gambia in West Africa on twice yearly basis. There he works educating and coaching a group of young African artists while at the same time acquiring inspiration for his own creations.

He lives and works in his home town Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Solo-expositie in Polen, pastels, foto's en aquarellen tijdens de 5e Internationale pastel Biënnale in Nowy Sacz in Polen van 8 april - 15 mei 2011 in Galeria SOKOL.

Medal of Honor, founded by the Polish Pastellists Association, April 8th. 2011 in Nowy Sacz in Poland.
Five times chairman of the jury of the International Biennal Pastel Exhibition and 'advocate' of Polish Art in The Netherlands and Plaque of merit for the city awarded by the Major of the City Nowy Sacz in Poland.
